1. About us and these terms

www.rootlet.co.uk ("Rootlet", "we", "us", "our") is operated by Rootlet Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number [COMPANY NUMBER], with its registered office at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. You can contact us at support@rootlet.co.uk.

These terms apply when you use our website, create an account, buy a course or publish a course as an instructor. By using Rootlet you agree to these terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Refund Policy, which form part of these terms.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 to create an account or buy a course. Under-18s may use Rootlet only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian, who is responsible for their use.
  • You must give accurate information and keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Accounts are personal. You must not share your account or course access with anyone else.

3. Buying courses

  • Prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP) and include VAT where applicable.
  • When you buy a course, you receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to access and view it for your own non-commercial learning, for as long as the course remains on Rootlet and your account is in good standing.
  • We may need to withdraw a course (for example, if an instructor removes it or it breaches our rules). Where possible we will give you continued access or offer a refund or a suitable alternative.
  • Payments are processed securely by our third-party payment providers. We do not store your full card details.

4. Cancellation and refunds

Courses are digital content. Your rights to cancel and get a refund are explained in our Refund Policy. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

5. Using course content

All course content belongs to Rootlet or the instructor who created it. You must not copy, download (except where a download feature is provided), record, resell, share, publish or distribute any course content, or use it to create competing material.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use Rootlet to:

  • break any law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • post content that is abusive, hateful, misleading, obscene or harmful;
  • upload viruses, interfere with the site's security or try to access it in an unauthorised way;
  • scrape, copy or harvest content or user data; or
  • send spam or unauthorised advertising.

We may remove content, suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

7. Instructors

If you publish courses on Rootlet:

  • You confirm you own or have permission to use everything in your course, and that it is accurate, lawful and does not infringe anyone's rights.
  • You grant Rootlet a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, market and sell your course and to sublicense it to learners who buy it.
  • You will receive the revenue share shown in your instructor dashboard, less payment processing fees and any refunds. Payouts are made according to the payout schedule and minimum shown in your dashboard.
  • You are responsible for your own tax affairs, including declaring your earnings.
  • We may review, refuse or remove any course that does not meet our quality standards or these terms.

8. Reviews and user content

Reviews, comments and other content you post must be honest and comply with section 6. You give us a non-exclusive licence to display that content on Rootlet. We may remove content at our discretion.

9. Our liability

  • We take reasonable care to keep Rootlet available and accurate, but we cannot guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • Courses are for general educational purposes. Instructors are responsible for their course content, and we do not guarantee any particular result, qualification or outcome from taking a course.
  • If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses.
  • If defective digital content we supply damages your device or other digital content, and this is caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, we will either repair the damage or compensate you.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

10. Closing your account

You can close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the new version here and, for significant changes, let you know by email or on the site. Changes will not affect courses you have already bought.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
