Course description

Already selling through a website shop, a market stall, craft fairs or another marketplace, and thinking about Amazon? This course shows UK sole traders and small sellers how to add Amazon as a channel: deciding whether it suits you, setting up a seller account, meeting the UK legal and tax basics, listing products, pricing for profit and using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA).

You begin by looking at how Amazon's catalogue, offers and fees work, then set up and protect your account in Seller Central. You work through records, Self Assessment, VAT, platform reporting, consumer rights and product safety, and learn how to check a product before you buy stock. Later sections cover finding products, writing accurate listings, working out profit after every fee, choosing between FBA and your own delivery, sending stock to Amazon, looking after customers and account health, advertising carefully and earning reviews fairly.

There are 10 sections and 50 written lessons. Each lesson has a worked example, common slips, questions people often ask and a short exercise to try, and each section ends with a short quiz. You follow Ebrel, who sells her own printed tea towels and aprons from Helmsley in North Yorkshire and adds Amazon to her other channels, mistakes included. In the final lessons you write a launch plan for a made-up pottery business, with full worked answers. Every section has a practice pack with exercise sheets, answer keys and cheat sheets, plus a decision checklist, registration and settings checklists, a tax and legal reference sheet, a product check routine, a product scoring sheet, a listing copy template, profit calculator spreadsheets, an FBA shipment checklist, a reorder planner, customer message examples and simple diagrams.

What you'll learn

  • Is selling on Amazon right for you: how the shared catalogue and the Featured Offer work, the kinds of fee in outline, your own costs, and a decision checklist.
  • Setting up your seller account: the two selling plans, the documents you need, registration and identity verification, payout and tax settings, and keeping your account secure.
  • UK legal and tax basics: trading and Self Assessment, records, Making Tax Digital, VAT and online marketplaces, digital platform reporting, consumer rights and product safety.
  • Restricted categories and approval: products that can't be sold or need approval, safety and labelling duties, awkward or fragile products, and a product check routine.
  • Finding products to sell: ways to source products, research in the Amazon store, suppliers and samples, counterfeits, trade marks and Brand Registry, and choosing a first range.
  • Creating listings: matching or creating product pages, barcodes, titles and bullet points, images, search terms and variations, and fixing listing problems.
  • Pricing and profit: the referral fee and FBA fees, profit per unit and margin, break-even and minimum prices, repricing and promotions, and a profit calculator spreadsheet.
  • Fulfilment: Fulfilment by Amazon compared with sending orders yourself, prep and labelling, Send to Amazon shipments, storage, and planning stock.
  • Customers, account health, ads and reviews: buyer messages, returns and A-to-z Guarantee claims, account health measures, Sponsored Products, and the UK law on fake reviews.
  • Scaling, records and your launch plan: bookkeeping for Amazon payouts, growing carefully, and a final project launch plan with full worked answers.

Who it's for

UK sole traders and small sellers who already sell in other ways and want to add Amazon. No Amazon experience is needed. If you're completely new to selling, you'll still be able to follow, though some business basics are covered only briefly.

What this course is, and isn't

This is a practical beginner course. It isn't legal, tax or financial advice, and it makes no promises about sales or income. Every price, cost and profit figure in the worked examples is made up, and the only Amazon fee figures quoted were read on Amazon's own UK pages on 2 November 2026 and are flagged as subject to change. Legal and tax points come from GOV.UK, HMRC and Citizens Advice, read on the same day. Rules, fees and Seller Central's menus change, so check the official pages before you rely on a detail. Other companies' tools and services are described by type, never by brand. Ebrel and every other person in the course are fictional.

What will I learn?

  • Decide whether Amazon suits your business, using how the catalogue, the Featured Offer and the fees work
  • Choose a selling plan, register and verify a seller account, and protect it with two-step sign-in and safe habits
  • Keep records of Amazon sales and fees, and understand Self Assessment, Making Tax Digital, VAT and digital platform reporting as they apply to you
  • Meet consumer rights and product safety duties, and check restricted categories and approval before you buy stock
  • Research products, check suppliers, respect other brands' rights and protect your own brand with a trade mark and Brand Registry
  • Write accurate listings with good images, genuine barcodes, search terms and variations, and fix listing problems
  • Work out profit per unit, margin, break-even and minimum prices after every fee, using a profit calculator spreadsheet
  • Choose between Fulfilment by Amazon and sending orders yourself, prepare and send FBA shipments, and plan stock
  • Look after buyers, returns and account health, advertise carefully and earn reviews within the law and Amazon's rules
  • Write a launch plan with listing copy, a profit calculation and a 90-day plan

Requirements

  • Products you already sell, or plan to sell; some experience of selling in another way is helpful
  • A computer with an internet connection, and a way to open PDF files and a spreadsheet
  • To open a seller account, the documents Amazon asks for, such as identity documents and a bank account; the course isn't legal, tax or financial advice
  • Time to do the short exercises in each lesson, for your own business or for the people in the course
